UNESCO World Heritage Sites (WHS)
A UNESCO World Heritage Site is a site that has been nominated for the organisation's international world heritage program in order to preserve its outstanding importance, either culturally or naturally. This is a constant evolving project with sites being taken off and added on a reasonably regular basis. As of Oct 2019, there are a total of 1,121 sites.
Clicking on the photo (left) will take you to the UNESCO website where you can see where all the WHS locations are in the world, what type they are (cultural, natural or mixed). You can also read up on why and how they achieved UNESCO status.
