A low cloud day on Fan Llia...taking in Craig Cerrig Gleisiad and Fan Fawr (Brecon Beacons).

Updated: Oct 3, 2020

19.12.2017 - Fan Llia 632m. Taking in Craig Cerrig Gleisiad and Fan Fawr (Nuttalls). Fforest Fawr, Brecon Beacons.

Well this was a day where I wished I had done it in the clear cold day that we had yesterday. Today was a very calm but a total no view day due to low clouds and mist. The route; started off at Story Arms and I headed north to Cerrig Gleisiad on a good trail and then looped around south towards Craig Cwm Du, Fan Dringarth and then took in Fan Llia at 632m. Llia was my last Nuttall in the Fforest Fawr area of the Beacons. I then went down the very steep decent to Ystradfellte reservoir and then up the long ascent to Fan Fawr (rude not to) before finishing at Story Arms. This would normally be a great hike with superb views as you are central to the entire Brecon Beacons range but today there was nothing to be seen!

Parking and Access: Plenty of parking normally available on weekedays at Story Arms car park. Very busy on weekends, normally full by 10am. It also has the pleasure of an end of hike burger van.

Route summary: A crappy misty/low cloud no view day on a long loop around Fan Llia, 632m. 16km, Elev Gain 731m, Time 4hr 35m.
