31.1.2021 - Gallt Y Wenallt 619m, Snowdon (Nuttall).
Summary
Well this was a solitary Nuttall on the Eastern fringe of the Snowdon massif done from Pen Y Pass car park.* No 188/189.
A three hour jaunt to do 10.5ks with 540m of stunning height gain. The spring weather was stunning and perfect for photos, even with my old iPhone 7. It was as good a day as you could get on this iconic Welsh wonder mountain.
The route was basically up to Lliwedd via the miners path then hang a left and keep going until you get to the end of the ridge and the small cairn on GYW. Turn round and then come back.
*Pen Y Pass car park is going to online booking and payment from April 8th. Standard charge for any length stay is £10 at the moment. This will change to;
Upto 8hrs £18
8-12hrs £25
24hrs £40.
This will be run by Just Park and I think this is going to play havoc with visitors, especially so as there is no signal on site for non bookers.
Route
Easy enough, park at Pen Y Pass car park (if you can afford it), walk along the Miners track to Llyn Llydaw where you hang a left to go up towards Lliwedd. Go steeply uphill to the cairn at the col below Lliwedd and turn left. Walk out the undulating kilometre and a half to the small cairned summit of Gallt Y Wenallt and return the way you came.
Parking: All info above.
Route Summary: Well maintained paths all the way to the col below Lliwedd. Some easy scrambling on the way too. Undulating terrain over an indistinct path to the summit.
Route Statistics: 10.5kms and 540m of height gain done in a leisurely photo taking 3hrs 50mins.
