Mynydd Carn Y Cefn 550m
Well this was a bimble with my old mate Al. On a so and so weather day we went over to the Blaina area in Gwent and parked in a neat little spot just off the A467. It wasn’t long before we were waking south down a distinct path wide enough for a vehicle and then hit the Llanerch Y Pant area marked on the map. Here there was a steep 40% slope up to the top of the hill and after turning north it was only a short amble before we got to the trig pointed summit, some 2.5kms after setting off. The views were okay but nothing to write home about really. To get off we headed north for a couple of more kilometers just to make a decent walk out of it. Then at quite a major intersection of paths we headed south again for another two km’s before joining the path we came in on. Turing north here it was no more than fifteen minutes before we got back to the van.
Route summary: Typical indistinct valley top with so so views. Not much height gain but it made for a half decent outing. All in all 6.5kms in 2hrs 10mins with 271m of ascent.
