16.10.1980 - Mt Olympus 1,952m, Cyprus (UN Country High Point).
Information
Mt Olympus is located in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus.
Summary
Mt Olympus at 1,952m is the highest peak in Cyprus and as such it is an independent UN country. This was my first World Country High Point attained when I was in the military back in 1980. In fact I went up Mt Olympus before I even went up Snowdon. However it was nothing to write home about as I was in Cyprus on a military exercise and was simply bussed up to the high point and walked around the summit area. I was unable to visit the true summit as there is a British long range radar currently operating there. I simply got to the highest point outside the military station and will claim it as a high point despite the fact it was nothing to write home about. I will not provide a link to my Peakbagger account as the information there is duplicated here. In addition excuse me for this, the most basic of entries.
Location of Mount Olympus
