15.5.19 - Mynydd Mawr 698m (Nuttall).
I parked up at the amply sized railway station car park in Rhyd Ddu (£3-4hrs £6 all day to midnight. Toilets on site). If you don’t want to pay there are small lay byes on nearby on the B4418 on the way out of Rhy Ddu right outside the village and at Llyn y Dywarchen.
This was a simple enough hike and a glorious one.
Head into the village and turn off on the B4418 and literally immediately take the forestry track into Rhyd Ddu forest. Follow the track until it becomes a footpath until you come out at a style after 1.5kms. Then follow the forest uphill until you get to another style. The views to your left (South) of the Nantlle Ridge aré superb as is the vista of Snowdon.
From here the path steepens considerably up to Foel Rudd but then you have a gentle rising loop for a km all the way to the fairness summit of Mynydd Mawr. The views are sublime all the way. Then...simply retrace your steps.
