28.4.2019 - Moel Fferna 630m and Pen Bwlch Llandrillo Top
This one starts in the village of Cynwyd about half an hours drive West from Llangollen. There is big car park behind the Prince of Wales pub. From there you simply head SE up the road dead opposite the said pub. You go steadily uphill and soon enter a forestry. Just keep on going until the tarmac runs out and a forestry track takes over. There is one junction where you have to hang a left but that is about it and after a good 4kms you come out on the hillside at a style.
Once here you keep on a pretty well defined path up to small col and fence. Hang a left here for the short out and back detour to Moel Fferna. Once your back at the col head South along a fence line where the path is distinct and the going is very good.
After about another 4kms Llandrillo Top is obviously in front of you. You have to hop over the fence to find the cairn at sport height 621. The views are of lovely rolling hills and this is a good lunch spot. Afterwards head South where you hit a well defined track and simply follow this all the way to Rhos Y Maerdy farm where you veer right and keep going another two kilometres where you hang another right. Shortly after there is a path on the left that takes you down all the way into Cynwyd.
Route Summary: A good few kilometres on road, forestry track, distinct and indistinct mountain paths. The decent is literally all on an unfenced off road vehicle track. Good views but nothing spectacular.
Route Statistics: 19.55km with 680m of height gain done in 5hrs 18mins.
