NW Trip No6. Day1 - Mwdwl Eithin, Betws Y Coed (Marilyn).

26.11.2020 - An out and back route on Mwdwl-Eithin 532n near Betws Y Coed, Snowdonia, Wales (Marilyn).

The start of this hike was just off the A543 near Hafod Dinbych about 16km East of Betws Y Coed. Parking was on a sizeable hard core parking area at the start point on a back road.

From the start point head East along the road until you get to some farm sheds on your right. Then the road/track goes round to your right but you go off slightly left behind a wall and follow this wall for about a kilometre through a few gates/styles until you bear left heading towards a wind turbine.

At the bottom of the hill with the turbine there is a gate on to the moorland. Once through the gate there is a vague path that veers left and north. You simply follow this path, which is indistinct at times, for the two kilometres across country on a gentle rise all the way to the summit. On a clear day like today the summit cairn was easily visible from a kilometre away.

Along with the cairn there is also the remnant of some type of stone shelter and a trig point. It took me 48 minutes to do the 3.5 kilometres to here along with 236m of ascent. The views of the rolling countryside is quite beautiful. Obviously to return simply retrace your steps.

Parking: Hard core parking area big enough for two cars.

Route Summary: short road section, a km of farm tracks then 2kms of heathery moorland on a path that is vague at times.

Route Statistics: 7km with 255m of ascent done in 1hr 35mins.
