Emerald Isle total tour. A tour of Ireland by camper van.

A complete anticlockwise circumnavigation of Ireland.


The Tour

Well after an enforced summer absence on the hills due to work and converting my camper van in October I decided I would go on a tour of Ireland in my new motorhome. I would go from Fishguard to Rosslare by ferry then hike around the southern hills before heading up the East coast to Wicklow on an anti clockwise mainly coastal journey around Ireland taking in the entire Wild Atlantic Way on the way and carry on all the way back round to Rosslare. On this little Irish adventure I also decided that if the weather was kind enough I would take in as many hill tops as I could. I would concentrate on hills near the coastline and take in as many Hewitts as I could along with any stray Marilyns, county and Island summits.


Results

The end result of this foray into the Irish hills was as follows;

78 peaks Peakbagger websited listed peaks attained with 24,932m of ascent and over 522km of hiking. This included; 41 Hewitts (now 47/209), 40 Marilyns (now 41/454), 9 County High Points (now 10/26) and 6 Island High Points (Now 7/17).

I am pretty pleased with that but there is a lot more to do out there on the stunning emerald Isle. A lot of it wonderful walking too!


The List

Here is the breakdown of my Irish hill list. I have up to three links for each hill and If you click on the links it will take you to the log entry on my Peakbagger, Wikiloc or Komoot accounts. All three sites will have ascent logs and they will be generally the same. However only Wikiloc and Kamoot provide photographs. A max of six on Wikiloc whilst Komoot will normally have many more (Komoot is now my preferred recording medium). Accurate route statistics are given in the route text. For some reason I find Wikiloc or the Peakbagger website does not reflect true accurate hill stats when uploading Garmin gpx files. Wikiloc gpx downloads are more user friendly for gps devices due to streamlining their files to 500 trackpoints (which is plenty!). All three sites have Gpx file download facilities.
