Peak & Lake District Sojourn. Day 24.

Buttermere Round, Lake District (5xNuttalls). Robinson 737m, Hindscarth 727m, Dale Head 753m, Honnister Crag 633m and Fleetwith Pike 648m.

Summary

Well what can I say, after a rest day yesterday this was just a perfect weather day taking in another line of hills around Buttermere. I could have done this ridge from Keswick so I could knock off all the Wainwrights (another 3) on the adjoining ridges but that meant I would not have had an early morning hike along lake Buttermere. To walk along this iconic lake without any crowds and only seeing the one person, who funny enough I met on the hill two days earlier, was blissful. So it was a walk along the lake, a steep pull onto the main ridge to do Robinson, Hindscarth and Dale Head before dropping down to Honnister Pass and up to do Honnister Crag and fantastic Fleetwith Pike before dropping down ever so steeply to the finish. All easy enough to follow

on a sunny blue sky day, either on well maintained paths or good mountain trails. A superb hike, absolutely world class.

Parking: Gatesgarth Farm car park. All day £4. 20 spaces or thereabouts but there is an overflow. Coffee/Ice cream cabin nearby.

Route: Good quality foot paths or wide tracks for literally the entire route. Very few wet areas. Rocky down climb from Fleetwith Pike. Superb views, about as picture postcard as you can get.

Route Statistics: An 18km day with 1,250m of height gain done in 6.5 hours with a ridiculous 200 photos!
