Summary
A claggy day out and about Buttermere doing the classic Grasmoor Round of seven Nuttalls along with Rannerdale Knotts which is a stand alone Wainwright even though it’s only 355m. A steep start with 550m of height gain done straight off in the first hour sees you on top of Whiteside West Top and then onto the superb airy ridge that leads to Hopegill Head where the views are rather nice to say the least. Then there is bit of a drop and the pretty stiff climb to lofty Grasmoor top before dropping down once again to Wandhope and Whiteless Pike. All great hiking with some great little non technical but nice airy ridges. Next is the big drop down off Whiteless Pike to Rannerdale Knotts. The latter being a gorgeous little dragons back hump of a hill to do before another steep decent down to the road and the walk back to the start. The views were great even on a claggy day like today they would be out of this world on a sky blue day like yesterday.
Parking: There are a few sizeable road side car parks in the valley. The one at the start point was sizeable with no access issues.
Route: Steep start (550m straight off). Good paths all the way round, some easy scrambling and non technical ridges at various points. Great views from most vantage points. Steep decent.
