Peak & Lake District Sojourn. Day 33.

Updated: Jul 6, 2021

Green Crag 489m, Hardknott Pass (Wainwright).

Summary

A short hike to pick up a solitary rather isolated Wainwright I have left in Hardknott Pass. Decent pub car park and a nice route with gorgeous views of the Eskdale Valley and of rocky Green Crag Itself.

Parking was at the Woolpack Inn in the valley. You can pay for parking or get in an early hike and have a polite coffee afterwards. On the way up I decided to go off piste to knock off some listed tumps and forgot to re start my watch in the first km. If you don’t want to do this the best way to do this hill easily is to follow my down route track up and back. There is a pretty decent path all the way to Green Crag.

Parking: Woolpack Inn. Pay or get there early.

Route: Up Route - Off piste heather bashing but not to bad. Rocky in places. Indistinct or no paths at all/sheep trails. Down Route - Decent path to follow all the way.

Route Statistics: A 9km, 520m height gain day done in 3 hours followed by two giant Mochas.
