Cheeks Hill-South Slope 520m, Buxton, Peak District (County HP).
Summary
Parking for the County/Unitary high point of Staffordshire was a small lay-by at the start point on the A54 pretty close to the lovely town of Buxton. Then it was a short and easy hike over to Cheeks Hill-South Slope first on good paths crossing over a back road on the way. Then it was onwards and downwards South passing Orchard Farm on your right until you hit another back road. You follow the road round to the left and leave it on a track that goes to some settlements.
For the next bit there are three isolated houses in your way but the track passes each of them just on the right. The path is very distinct so you should have no problem.
Once past the houses you go up a small rise and over a style to head back towards Cheeks Hill but to the right of it. It gets a bit wet and boggy but not overtly so. You hit the first back road again and veer right and then pick your spot to jump over the fence on the left to head for the trig pointed top of Axe Edge Moor.
Now the next bit was pathless, uneven and boggy but again not overtly so. The TP was less than a kilometre away in anyway and I was soon looking at the decent surrounding views from the top. From here there is a path that heads downhill North back down to the A54 and the start point.
Parking: Lay-by at start point and another one just down the road towards Buxton.
Route: Good trails and paths but boggy in some places. A bit of road. Half decent views of the surrounding area.
Route Statistics: Only 7.6km’s and 203m of height gain done in a sloth like two hours.
