The little hills near Abergavenny, Edmunds Tump and Galway Hill (Wales/England Border).

Updated: Oct 3, 2020

05.01.2015 - Edmunds Tump 423m (Wales) and Garway Hill 366m (England).

Well it wasn't a great weather day but I decided to do two little Marilyns that I haven't done before, those of Edmunds Tump or Graig Syfyrddin (Wales) and Garway Hill (England). Both are nestled between Abergavenny and Hereford. Both start in tiny hamlets with limited i.e. one car parking locations but both were lovely little hills in their own right.

Edmunds Tump is at 423m and this hike was around 7km and a mix of road, wide paths, forest trails and fields with a trig point in the middle of a farmers field. Garway Hill is only about a half hour drive away and is at 366m and is a typical common land summit. The latter being the finer hike of the two even though only 4km long.

It quite easy to do both of these hikes in one day with Edmund's Tump being only 1hr 35mins and Garway about 50 minutes. Both are worth doing in their own right as you can get fine views across to the Sugar Loaf, Skirrid and Bryn Arw from both tops. All of the aforementioned are Marilyns that I have done previously in one long day. Garway hill surprised me because it is a lovely common with a pill pox construction on the summit near the trig point. The views from here of the typical UK countryside was superb.

All in all a lovely day out on some local tumps that I have not done before. You don't have to go high to get beauty and beauty we have in the UK in abundance.

Parking and Access: Both of these routes had limited parking at the start points of the gpx route. Literally a one car lay-by at each location.

Route Summaries:
